Third Party (Public) Liability
Third Party (Public) Liability
Every business carries liability to third parties. An accident can happen in your office e.g. a client slips on a wet surface. It can happen in your restaurant e.g. a waiter spills on soup on a client’s luxury handbag. If you own a factory or a warehouse and a fire starts on your premises and spreads to your neighbouring units, you will need a Third Party Liability (also known as a Public Liability) insurance cover to manage your liability.
This could also be needed for a contractual requirement in the contracts you are signing be it a tenancy agreement or a contract for services.
Sometimes, the requirement is for a Combined General Liability (CGL) cover. A CGL cover loosely speaking usually comprises three covers – Third Party Liability, Product Liability and Advertising Liability. This can be more economical than covering all the different liabilities individually. The advantage is also that a Third Party Liability cover under a CGL cover is usually wider when compared to a standalone Third Party Liability cover.
