If you manage third party cargo, you need Transport Operator Liability (TOL) cover. TOL can encompass several liability covers:
Third Party Liability (Public Liability) – This covers for accidental injury / damage to third party persons / property.
Cargo and Related Liabilities (including errors and ommissions) – This covers you for legal liability owed to third parties should you damage their cargo while the cargo is in your care or should your mistakes result in your clients suffering financial losses.
Liability for Fines and Duties – This covers you in case an Authority imposes upon you fines or duties for unintentional breaches of law or statutory provisions related to the conduct of your business as a transport operator.
Not to be confused with Cargo Insurance. Cargo insurance covers for the value of the cargo and is paid to the owner at the time of loss. If you are a Transport Operator and want to cover your liability in case cargo is damaged while you are managing it, the appropriate cover would be a Transport Operator Liability cover.
